Honoring Your Druthers
A "druther" is nothing
more that "I' druther do that, I' druther do this."
We need to honor our druthers.
Druthers come from deep inside.
They are our intuition, our inner wisdom guiding and directing
us. Sometimes they are soft and come almost in a whisper while
other times they practically yell at us. Do you honor your druthers?
Or are you easily swayed by what other people want, seem to
need, or even ask for?
I'd druther stay home than be
in a group of people. But how do I keep from being alone. In
my case, I write a lot: sometimes expressing thoughts like this
one, sometimes a new awareness that comes through the support
of a friend, sometimes when my mind makes a new connection of
ideas or the use of an idea. I honor my druthers by allowing
myself to stay home in my comfortable and cozy sweats rather
than move out into a social environment in which I find myself
less than comfortable.
Sometimes druthers keep us from
doing things that might be good for us. For instance, it would
probably be a good idea for me to join an organization or a
cause that gave me the opportunity to go out. I need to balance
that.
What druthers do you have? Who
is talking you out of them? Why are you not doing them?
A professional woman I know
has moved from being at the top of her business into being a
mother of two while watching her husband take over the business
and make it very successful. She'd druther have the satisfaction
and accolades that came to her in the business position, but
she will never capture that in exactly the same way again. She
must make peace with her druther. She must change her druther
to I'druther be spending these vital start up years with my
children. By changing her druther she can once again find value
in what she is doing.
Bloom where you are planted.
We planted ourselves where we are today. We planted ourselves
though our thoughts, our intentions and our choices. That doesn't
mean we are stuck, not at all, it means that this is what we
drew to us and it will stay until we change our druthers. I'druther
be more flexible and lighter in my body becomes a rallying point
for choices like adding a few blocks to my walk, or snacking
on carrots instead of crackers. I'druther be working for myself
than someone else invites us to begin to gather the training
and resources to start our own business. I'druther not travel
very far from home for my work helps us look for our speaking
gigs within a 30 mile radius of our home.
Honor your druthers. See what
part of them you are willing to act on. See what part you want
and which part you don't really need. Your druthers are a sign
pointing the way to happiness.
