FINDING AND FOLLOWING YOUR
NATURAL RHYTHM AND PATTERN
Life keeps getting better and
better. I have more freedom. No one is telling me what to do.
I do what I am called to do from my inner wisdom. I do it when
I feel like it. It doesn't get much better. But it's taken me
a while to get here.
I was reading a novel by Judith
Michael that said, "I like to live in a pattern and rhythm
that I make for myself."
And I thought, "So do I!"
and I realized that's what I was creating.
But I live alone. It's a lot
easier to follow my own pattern and rhythm when I'm the only
one that needs to be pleased.
It was harder when I was raising
four children-much harder.
When I got divorced a long time
ago, I had the opportunity to redefine myself. I had to look
within to see what was really "me" and to find exactly
what I had compromised on, for we do make accommodating adjustments
in a relationship. If I wanted to have fun, I needed to know
exactly what constituted "fun" for me. If I wanted
to be with people, who exactly did I want to be with just for
me, just for my pleasure. How did I want to spend my hours?
What exactly did I want to do with my life? We have to know
what pleases us before we can immerse ourselves in it.
The Pauses
Pauses are a vital point in
the navigation of our life. Sometimes they are organic. Sometimes
they come from external circumstances. Pauses are the times
when we go within, we contemplate, we explore and find out where
we are now, who we are now, what we want now and what we want
next.
Take your pauses seriously.
I've just completed a month
of intense focus on a four week teleclass- the giving of the
class, the recording, the editing. Part of me says, "What's
next?" and another part says, "Take a breather."
It is in the breather that the
insights come.
New Beginnings
Every pause, every completion,
is the opportunity to see what you have created and decide what
you want more of and what you want less of. Do I want a new
big creative project or do I want the serenity of completing
almost finished projects? Do I want to sit around for two days
and read novels or do I need to be with people? Where am I now,
what new things have I learned, what would fulfill me next?
To create a new beginning you
have to release. Release old beliefs. Release efforting. Release
attachment to a certain outcome. It is in the releasing that
we make room for the new, the fresh, the insightful.
Sharing Your Pattern
And once you find your pattern
and rhythm, you can keep it even when you share with others.
It's like being a part of a symphony, you hold your rhythm and
melody, your partner holds his/her rhythm and melody. Your children,
your friends, your business associates, all have their own rhythm
and pattern and when you listen, when you feel, when you are
receptive, you will find all those patterns and rhythms intertwining
in the magnificent swell of a new composition.
"I like to live in a pattern
and rhythm that I make for myself." What is your pattern?
What is your rhythm? What would you like to change?
Every day can be a new beginning.
The end of every project can bring a fresh start. A momentary
pause can bring a new insight and a new choice. Look within.
Take time to listen. Adjust your pattern. Adjust your rhythm.
Make your pattern and rhythm uniquely yours.
